Multipurpose Mediterranean
Saratoga, California
This creative artist and mother presented me with a unique wish-list: a garden that would lure her two teenage boys outside, while providing year-round flowers for her to study and paint (using less water, of course) and a secluded courtyard oasis next her bedroom.
Removing the entire front lawn (and most of the back) allowed us to create various rooms and small seating areas throughout the garden – perfect for the boys and their friends to hang out in while feeling a sense of privacy.
The hidden courtyard is now filled with scented flowers, herbs, and hummingbird favorites. The main garden overflows with olive and strawberry-guava trees, succulents tucked in stone walls, and lush plantings with unique flowers and textures (perfect for painting).
