LOSE THE LAWN, GAIN A GARDEN:

With children no longer living at home, these homeowners wanted to remove their thirsty, high maintenance lawn and replace it with several ‘garden rooms’.

The garden rooms would consist of a flagstone patio, raised vegetable garden and a shady dining area. The space was small, though, so defining the individual rooms would be a challenge.

One solution was to blend the new hardscaping with the existing brick in shapes to help define the distinct areas. Another was to create the ‘walls’ of the rooms using tall and narrow trees and plants.
