AN ARTIST’S MEADOW GARDEN:

As artists, the homeowners of this 1-acre property desired a garden that would reflect both their love of plants and their passion for the environment. They wanted this garden to reflect their simple, aesthetic style while simultaneously blending in with the surrounding hills.

A few challenges of this project were the marauding deer and rabbits that were encouraged to visit, as well as the steep slopes on which it was built.

The first step was removing an unused traditional lawn and replacing it with a low-maintenance, low water meadow of Carex pansa. We then surrounded the meadow with terraces filled with a mix of drought-tolerant Mediterranean, California native and edibles.
